We’ll kick off the meeting with introductions and key updates, followed by a spotlight on Red Ribbon Week—highlighting school-based prevention efforts, community engagement opportunities, and the Planting the Promise initiative.  Planting the Promise is a community initiative that coincides with Red Ribbon Week (October 23–31), where participants plant red tulip bulbs or flower seeds in the fall as a symbol of their commitment to a healthy, drug-free life. These blooms emerge in the spring, serving as a living reminder of hope, growth, and the promise to make positive, drug-free choices. Attendees will also receive a special Red Ribbon Week gift to help spread awareness!

We’ll officially launch the annual Coalition Assessment Tool (CAT) survey to gather feedback on our coalition’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth. The survey will be open through October 31, 2025, with a QR code available during the meeting. A link will also be emailed to formal and informal coalition members and committed partners—your input is essential and greatly appreciated.

To receive the CAT survey link, email Coalition Coordinator Kelley Groen-Sieckmann at kelley.groen@esd112.org.

Our featured guest speaker, Mandy FeeksOpioid Community Prevention Project Coordinator with Prevent Coalition and a member of the Central Vancouver Coalition, will present strategies and resources focused on opioid prevention. Mandy offers a menu of services to support coalitions like ours in advancing their efforts, and her presentation will include:

  • An overview of the opioid crisis, supported by local, regional, and state public health data, including the Healthy Youth Survey and data from Clark County Public Health.
  • A menu of evidence-based prevention strategies, including:

    • Locks Save Lives safe medication storage campaign

    • Washington State Starts With One campaign

    • Drug take-back events and year-round medicine disposal programs

    • Naloxone policy, access, and training

    • Evidence-based school curriculum

  • Tools, resources, and planning support available through the Prevent Coalition to help us take action locally.
  • collaborative Call to Action planning session, where attendees will help identify which strategies may be the best fit for implementation in Central Vancouver and determine next steps.

We hope to see you there as we continue working together to build a healthier, safer community!
